I am so happy I get to teach your child in my Language Arts class. Here are the basic things you need to know about how I teach Spalding in the classroom:
- Each Monday I will send home their weekly spelling words for the week. If your child is absent, they will receive the spelling words the day they get back, if I feel they need more time due to absence I will contact you about extending when they will take the exam.
- Each Friday there will be a spelling test that your child must take. If you go over the spelling words with your child each night leading up to the test (for only 5-10 minutes) they will be prepared.
- I will have a phonogram test every Friday after our spelling test in class. This will be a random choosing of the phonograms we have learned so far in class.
- There will be a Spalding spelling assessment each month. This is not a test your child can prepare for by having a list of words sent home to practice, but if you are studying the words I send home with them each week some words may be on the monthly Spalding assessment. If your child is finding phonograms in their weekly spelling test and understanding how to apply the rules to words they should be able to do very well on these monthly assessments. These assessments will help us know how your child is progressing and if they should be moved to a different class to meet their individual needs.
- I will send home an email of any new phonograms we learn and if there are any announcements needed to know. This is how you will know what is going on.
- I expect you to work with your child each night and go through the phonograms we have learned in class to help them master these sounds. It helps your child do extremely well in class and on all the assignments.
- If your child is absent, I will send home any work they have missed. They must turn it back in to receive credit for the work they missed.
- If you see an "M" in your child's Aspire under any assignment this means your child is missing that assignment. If there is a missing assignment please contact me and I can help you help your child make up that assignment. If the space is blank I have not yet graded those papers and will do so soon.
